Skating Sessions and Hours: Ice rink hours are from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., daily. Ice skating sessions in Union Square begin every even hour and last for 90 minutes. See below for schedule.

What you will do?
Once you put on your skates, enjoy the festive lights and the sights and sounds of the season that surround San Francisco’s iconic plaza. Also, the ice rink have many events planned for the duration the ice rink is open. Every Wednesday from 6-7:30pm and from 8-9:30pm, it is “Arabian Nights”, Disney’s ALADDIN-themed skate sessions where guests will imagine themselves on a magic carpet ride with special purple rink lighting and music from the ALADDIN Original Broadway Case Recording. Another great event is the Polar Bear Skate on 1/1/2018 from 2-3:30pm where ice skaters are invited to ring in the New Year in their chicest, craziest, and most innovative beach attire to compete for prizes, awarded based on theme, originality and overall look. Tips:

- Don’t worry if your kid doesn’t know how to skate because there will be Skate Helpers you could rent for $6. For beginning skaters under 4 feet tall (48”), you could rent Skate Helpers, penguin-looking tools that glide with the skater along the ice and help with balance and control
- The ice rink suits skaters of all levels. If you never ice skated before, there are professional skate instructors every weekend from 8:30am – 9:30am. Lessons are free, including skate rental, to those who sign up in advance. Highly recommend you sign up online at www.unionsquareicerink.com as space is limited to 50 participants per day.
- It is recommended you wear layers. Mittens and hats are also recommended. The ice rink sells both mittens and socks if you need them.
- Numerous transportation options are available to get to the ice rink. If taking public transit, the SFMTA’s transit trip planner provides the most comprehensive schedules and route for all options, including:
- Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) from the East Bay or southern San Francisco. Exit at the Powell Street station.
- San Francisco Muni bus lines 2, 3, 38 and 38R and 76X stop at Union Square.
- Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde cable car lines stop in Union Square.
- San Francisco’s historic trolley car “F” line stops nearby at Market and Powell Streets.
